Summer Learning Program

The Oley Valley Community Education Foundation (OVCEF) is proud to celebrate its 7th year of supporting the Oley Valley Community Library’s Summer Learning Program. Through our ongoing financial support, we help make it possible for the Library to offer a wide range of engaging educational activities that keep students learning, exploring, and growing all summer long. We are honored to partner with the Library in this important effort and are excited to see another summer filled with opportunity and enrichment for our community’s youth.
Check out this summer's weekly lineup:
June 5 – Berks Conservation District
Join Environmental Coordinator, Jennifer Brooks, and learn all about worms and the important role they play in the environment. We will read Diary of a Worm and conduct worm experiments. Also, we will learn how to use worms to compost our food scraps.
Book of the Week: "Bob and Otto"
June 12 – Super Science Show
The Super Science Show will be bringing so much fun to the Oley Valley Community Library. You will learn about biology, physics, and chemistry while having so much fun that you will forget you are learning science.
Book of the Week: "501 Science Experiments"
June 19 – Grins and Grins
This is a fast-paced comedy show that incorporates magic, ventriloquism, daring feats of balance, circus skills, and more to create a family-friendly show that is way more than just another juggling show.
Book of the Week: "Big Book of Silly Jokes for Kids"
June 26 – Yocum Institute
Children and parents use their imagination and movement to become different characters and objects. Learn about pantomime, characterization, and improvisation. Enjoy creative play!
Book of the Week: "Yoga Bunny"
July 10 – KooKoo the Cartoon Magician
KooKoo’s show focuses on interaction with the children in the audience just as much as it is about performing magic. Come to the library to see a cartoon show as much as it is a magic show.
Book of the Week: "Kids Magic Tricks: Simple Magic Tricks"
July 17 – Circus Skills
You will have firsthand experience in learning how to perform certain juggling skills. You will see a demonstration of these skills and will have opportunities to try them. Bring on the fun!
Book of the Week: "Peter Spier's Circus"
July 24 – Music Play Patrol
Discover the rhythm that surrounds us every day. Bucket drumming teaches us how to transform everyday objects into a musical instrument. We will create our own rhythm.
Book of the Week: "Animal Music"
July 31 – Party Animal Express
This is an entertaining animal program that introduces you to animals through educational facts and stories. You will learn about their natural lives and how they interact with people. You will have the opportunity to pet some animals.
Book of the Week: "All About Ellie"

The Summer Learning Program is held in Weidner Hall in Friedens UCC Church, above the library, and it begins promptly at 10:30 am.
We appreciate the church allowing the library to use their space so that more families can enjoy the Summer Learning Program!
Please keep in mind that the Summer Learning Programs are designed for school-age children, and presentations may not be of interest to younger children.
The library appreciates your help in keeping your children seated and quiet during the programs.
